Man receives 20 years for burglary and assault of elderly couple

| July 27, 2016

Travis EvansAnne Arundel County State’s Attorney Wes Adams announced today that Travis Evans, 29, was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Michele J. Jaklitsch to 20 years in prison for the burglary and assault of an Anne Arundel County elderly couple in October of 2013. Evans is currently serving a 60-year sentence in Prince Georges County for an armed carjacking, armed robbery and a handgun related offense and pled guilty on Tuesday afternoon to burglary and two counts of 2nd degree assault – one each for 87-year-old Oliver Daff and 73-year-old Lynn Paquette.

“This was a particularly disturbing case that brutally victimized an elderly couple in the middle of the night,” said Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Wes Adams. “The outcome of this case is a testament to the diligent work of my prosecutors and the thorough investigations we see from the Anne Arundel County Police Department time and again. I want to thank Judge Jaklitsch for giving the maximum sentence to this dangerous criminal.”

Evans’ DNA was found on the broken tip of a latex glove inside the rope that was used to tie up the victims the night of the incident.

Evans was sentenced the maximum 20 years for burglary, to run consecutive to his current 60-year sentence in Prince George’s County. Evans was also sentenced an additional 10 years, to run concurrent to the 20 year burglary sentence, for each assault.

A relative of one of the victims prepared a statement for court that read in part, “Since the robbery and beatings they received on that awful day, they have been so scared at night that they block all the doors, including the bedroom door, and they sleep with all the lights in the house all night. That awful night has pretty much consumed their lives.”

87-year-old Daff simply asked, “Why did he do this to me?”

ASA Samantha Mildenberg prosecuted the case on behalf of the State.
