Light House receives $2000 Food Lion grant

The Light House has been awarded a $2,000 grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help fight hunger in Anne Arundel County. This grant will provide much needed support by directly funding The Light House pantry program’s hunger relief efforts.

“Providing our neighbors in need with the nutritious food required to support the health and well-being of themselves and their families is a critical part of our Light House mission,” said Light House Executive Director, Jo Ann Mattson. “Struggling with food insecurity forces individuals and families to make extremely difficult decisions involving their most basic needs, which is why our Light House food programs are so impactful. Our food programs can ensure that a family doesn’t have to choose between buying groceries or paying their rent, that an individual can afford to cover the cost of their medication and still have food on their table, and that a child has the nutritionally complete meals necessary for healthy development. The continued support of the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is a blessing, and we are grateful to be able to use these funds to reach even more of our neighbors struggling to make ends meet.”

In 2018 alone, The Light House distributed over 99,000 pounds of perishable and non-perishable food to individuals and families in Anne Arundel County. They also served over 38,000 hot meals in their cafeteria, distributed over 30,000 bagged lunches, and provided emergency shelter, clothing, case management, and other vital homelessness prevention and support services to over 2,000 community members in need.

Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $12 million in grants.
