“We regret having to close this location,” said Rukmini Walker owner of the three area stores, “we really appreciate the support of our customers and staff at the Towne Centre over the years. We made a lot of friends here.”
The store features art to wear, fine craft, and one-of-a-kind jewelry. It has a strong following for its stores throughout the region.
Chitra Gunderson, the store manager, commented,” Many of the Towne Centre merchants have expressed regret at our leaving. As Kindred Spirits was especially appreciated for the events they promoted and developed.”
Janet Roessler, Assistant Manager and Events Manager who spearheaded the merchant Co-op group as well as many community events, expressed her thanks. ” It has been such a pleasure working with the community here. They really supported with our ideas.” MOMfest, Taste of the Towne Centre, Holiday Block Party and last summer’s DIVA Days Woman’s Expo are a few of the events that As Kindred Spirits promoted in Annapolis.
A combination of a downturn in the economy in as soon as the store opened, the transition of many to an e commerce mentality, and a desire to concentrate on their two other “flagship” operations and their website, convinced Rukmini Walker to close the Annapolis Towne Centre location after nearly 5 years.
As Kindred Spirits will continue to operate its two stores at Congressional Plaza in Rockville (301-984-0102) and at Reagan National Airport, Terminal B, (703-417-1508). They are also encouraging their clientele to shop on line where they are expanding and updating the As Kindred Spirits website at askindredspirits.com .
“While we regret closing this location,” said Rukmini, “we invite our customers to visit our Annapolis Towne Centre location one or two more times for a special sale, with the entire store at 15-50% through February 14. It’s a bit of a Valentine’s Going Away Present from us to you, “ she said.
