“Transformation: Guitar Gems from the 17th Century to Contemporary Composers” Classical Guitar Concert

Internationally acclaimed classical guitarist Meng Su presents “Transformation: Guitar Gems from the 17th Century to Contemporary Composers,” featuring selections from Bach to Piazzola.

Born in Qingdao, China, Meng Su captivates audiences around the world with her stunning virtuosity and refined artistry. This season, she will make her solo debut with the China Philharmonic Orchestra in the Chinese premiere of Tan Dun’s concerto Yi2. As a soloist, Meng Su will perform in Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Washington, D.C., Florida, Poland, Germany and across Japan. In addition to a busy solo career, Meng Su is an avid chamber musician who tours regularly in the Beijing Guitar Duo, which she founded, performing this season in Copenhagen, Milwaukee, Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, St. Louis, Australia and across Canada. A first-prize winner in numerous international competitions, including the prestigious Parkening International Guitar competition in 2015, Meng Su completed a master’s degree with Maestro Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University and is currently an artist-in-residence for the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts.

The November 3 concert is part of a continuing monthly series at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, now completing its fourth year. In 2018, the series moves from Fridays to First Sundays, beginning Sunday, January 7, at 3:00 p.m., with concert pianist Brian Ganz performing a program of Chopin’s “Hidden Gems and Timeless Treasures.”
