The Clazzical Project Outside the Bachs

July 28, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$15 – $60

Classical music in jazz arrangements? Yes! Don Stapleson (flute), Pete Fields (guitar), Fred Lieder (cello) and guest pianist Brian Ganz perform Debussy’s Reverie, Mozart’s Minuet in F, Bach’s Minuet in G, C.P.E. Bach’s Solfeggietto and other works. First Ganz plays the original classical piece, then Stapleson follows with brief commentary on jazz treatments, and then Clazzical Project offers their jazz interpretation. Cross-over? Mind-bending? “Ingenious and beautiful?”* Yes, yes, yes!

* “ingenious & beautiful juxtaposition of jazz treatments against iconic classical melodies” says Jeffrey Silberschlag, Music Director of Chesapeake Orchestra & Italy’s Alba Music Festival.

Don Stapleson: director, St. Mary’s College Jazz Bands; founder, The Don Stapleson Quartet; performed with Ray Charles, Wayne Newton, Nancy Wilson, and Martha Reeves.

Pete Fields: performances across US & Europe; classical guitar, jazz, Latin; released album “Stillness of the Heart.”

Fred Lieder: Washington area music scene: classical, jazz, blues, rock, Celtic; arranger rock tunes for solo cello including works by the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, and Carlos Santana; released album “Cello Blues” & book My Cello Has the Blues.

Brian Ganz: known for mastery of classical music; considered leading pianist of his generation; performed world-wide with major symphonies and won international prizes.
