Lecture – Cleave America, Patriot Flames 1774: The Fate of the Brigantine Peggy Stewart

October 18, 2022 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

$10 – $15

The ship, the brigantine Peggy Stewart, sailed into infamy in 1774, a year when a sea of turbulence was in the colony of Maryland and especially here in Annapolis. Learn about this infamous Brigantine with author Dan E. Hobbs. His research and narrative of pre-Revolutionary history shares the turmoil found up and down the Atlantic Coast preceding and following the Tea Party in Boston. His novel seeks to share the American story when our political cleave, or division, led to dreadful violence, but ultimately to a cleave, a clinging together, and eventually the birth of a United States of America.

Mr. Hobbs explores this division in his book presentation, Cleave America, Patriot Flames 1774: The Fate of the Brigantine Peggy Stewart and Those Whose Lives She Touched, by creating a story about ordinary folks – farmers, merchants, seamen, and laborers – who were pulled and pushed by the tides and winds of social change. Join HA on the outdoor terrace of the William Paca House for this presentation, which will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.

Limited quantities of the book will be available for purchase. If you have a pre-purchased book, you are welcome to bring it with you for signing!
