Ganpopa Center to Offer Tibetan Buddhist Philosophy Class

“Tibetan Buddhist Philosophy Class” is a course that will explore the text The Jewel Ornament of Liberation by Gampopa. The course will be led by Lama Phurbu Tashi Rinpoche at the Gampopa Center in Annapolis. It will take place on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, July 19 to September 20, 2016.

Each session will begin with a few brief traditional chants, followed by teachings that will be presented, discussed and meditated upon as methods for investigating and transforming one’s attitudes, developing positive qualities and striving to realize enlightenment.

For more than eight centuries, The Jewel Ornament of Liberation by Gampopa has provided the backbone of study for many Tibetan Buddhists. It guides the student from the elementary tenets of Buddhism to the profoundest realization of Buddhahood.

Gampopa’s work seems to have been the first Tibetan text of its kind, and it has remained famous to the present day. It deals with the whole of Buddhism in a lucid manner. It is addressed to all people who are, or may become, spiritually inclined. It appeals to contemporary Western laypeople as well as Tibetan Buddhist monks and nuns.

People of all belief systems and current practitioners of all levels are welcome to attend. Visitors and members have access to all sessions on a drop-in basis; no advance registration is required. People can attend on an “as can” basis, attending as much or as little as they are able. It is not necessary to own or read the book in advance to attend a meeting.
