Explore MD Adventure Series: Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge

A new Capital Adventures project with a mission to “Explore Water Less Paddled.”
The Explore Maryland Adventure Series will be series of single event guided paddle tours that will take you to untapped paddling waterways throughout Maryland! Capital SUP will provide rental equipment (SUPs, Kayaks, Pedalboards) and transportation. Price breakdown below. We will also provide water & snacks courtesy of LOOP Spring Water, KIND Snacks, and Red Bull!
Open to all levels of paddling. Proper fall/winter layering required. Capital SUP has a partnership with NRS, a leading outdoor company providing paddling apparel. Explore MD Adventure Series participants will receive 15% off orders. Email [email protected] to inquire.
1st Stop: Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge
The Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1933 as a waterfowl sanctuary for birds migrating along the critical migration highway called the Atlantic Flyway. The refuge is located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, just 12 miles south of Cambridge, Maryland in Dorchester County, and consists of over 28,000 acres of freshwater impoundments, brackish tidal wetlands, open fields, and mixed evergreen and deciduous forests. In addition to a wealth of wetlands and forests, Blackwater Refuge is also host to over 250 bird species, 35 species of reptiles and amphibians, 165 species of threatened and endangered plants, and numerous mammals that can be spotted throughout the year in Blackwater’s marshes, forests, meadows, and fields. During winter migration, Blackwater Refuge is also home to upwards of 35,000 geese and 15,000 ducks.
After the paddle tour, we will be stopping at RAR Brewery in Cambridge, MD for food & beverages!
