Colonial Christmas at the Rising Sun Inn

Did Maryland colonist have Christmas trees? Did they decorate their homes for Christmas, and if so, how? What is wassail? Why is December 23, 1783, important? Find out these answers and more when you join the Friends of the Rising Sun Inn for a Colonial Christmas at the Inn Open House on Saturday, December 16th between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. This family-friendly open house event will be held at the historic Rising Sun Inn located at 1090 Generals Highway, in Crownsville, Maryland. A Colonial Christmas at the Inn will include children’s crafts and traditional holiday sweets. Visit with historical interpreters who will share with you about the Christmas traditions of colonial Maryland, and for the children, Father Christmas will arrive at 4:00 p.m. to greet our young visitors. Admission is $7.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 6 – 12 years of age, and children under 6 are free. Friends of the Rising Sun Inn members will receive a $1.00 discount off the regular admission.

The Friends of the Rising Sun Inn is a non-profit, 501(c)3 charitable organization established to provide funding for the preservation, restoration, repair, maintenance, and operation of the Rising Sun Inn and property as an historical site and museum. The Rising Sun Inn, built circa 1753, is a rare surviving example of a pre-Revolutionary, hip-roofed farmhouse and is listed with the National Registry of Historic Places.
