AACC Hosts 4th Annual Crime, Violence, Mental Illness Conference

June 8, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

$95

One in four people suffer from mental illness, making it likely that police, teachers, health professionals, social workers and many other professions dealing with the public will not only need the skills to identify mental illness, but learn to engage and respond to crisis situations, especially those involving mental illness and violent crimes. Please join Anne Arundel Community College’s Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Institute for a full day of training, speakers and networking focused on addressing mental illness in a culture of violence. This regional conference explores the areas where the criminal justice and mental health systems meet – highlighting best practices in investigating, managing, and treating offenders who may suffer from mental illness. Learn about critical case studies that involve mental illness as mitigating circumstances to some acts of violence in our communities. At this year’s conference, hear from experts in the fields, including Captain Robert Plummer of the Las Vegas Police Department who will recount the events of the October 1, 2017 mass shooting near the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.
The $95 registration includes continental breakfast, lunch and afternoon reception.
