Good morning, it is Monday, June 12th, 2023, and THIS is your Eye On Annapolis Daily News Brief presented by Annapolis Subaru and the SPCA of Anne Arundel County.
The weekend started out great with a wonderful 30-mile ride in the Tour de Talbot in Easton, an incredible Bands in the Sand where yours truly won a raffle, but then Sunday. We have some news, so shall we?
Annapolis saw its fourth, fifth, and sixth murder on Sunday night. Just after 8 pm, shots rang out on Paddington Place off of Edgewood Road. Police have not released too many details, but the Chief confirmed that three have died and two more were flown to trauma centers, and another was sent to a trauma center by ground. All in all, six people. At the press conference, he said the incident was domestic in nature, they had a person of interest in custody and had recovered a weapon. All of the injured ranged in age from early 20s to 50s. He would not say if the police had responded to the address in the past, but did say the neighborhood was generally quiet. Mayor Buckley said he was sorry for the victims, families, and the City, and gun violence has no place here while reiterating that it can happen anywhere. Both Mayor and Chief said the department would be working tirelessly to solve the case.
Anne Arundel County saw its fourth fire fatality over the weekend. On Saturday, just after 2 am, a fire broke out in the 3200 block of Blackwalnut Drive in Annapolis. When crews arrived, there was fire visible, and sixty firefighters from Anne Arundel, Annapolis, and NSA Annapolis battled the blaze that took about an hour to control. Unfortunately, a woman, the home’s sole occupant at the time, was found deceased. The fire caused approximately $225,000 in damage and the cause is under investigation.
I hope you got to listen to our Local Business Spotlight with Eric and Alden Sullivan and their mental health app, Propser. I am a fan and have actually been using it! But in addition, the Health Department and the Mental Health Agency here in the county have partnered with them to get this tool into the hands of as many teens and young adults as possible. Give our pod a listen and get that app wherever you get your apps– look for Prosper Health.
I need to tell you something. But I am not sure what it is. How is that for vague? Well, I CAN tell you it is happening at 7:00 pm on Wednesday at Maryland Hall in the Bowen Theatre. And that’s about it! The fabulous ladies from the Annapolis Film Festival are bringing a surprise film to be screened. We know it is a Sundance award-winner from Searchlight Pictures, and it is not yet in the theaters. So, if you are up for a surprise…get your tickets at annapolisfilmfestival.com and if past performance is an indicator, they do a great job of picking flicks! See ya Wednesday!
The Annapolis Blues had another great night on Saturday! Another win..this time against Virginia Beach, so they are now undefeated! They are back at home on Sunday, June 18th at 5 pm. Tickets and info at AnnapolisBlues.com
Hopefully, you caught our Canines and Crosstreks segment on Friday–with three adorable two-week-old puppies. Not quite ready for adoption yet, but check out our post from noon on Friday for some great photos and videos. And if you have some room in your heart and home for these three or maybe some of their 6 other siblings, we have all the info on how to adopt them when they are ready toward the end of July!
