Good morning, it is Wednesday, December 7th, 2022, and THIS is your Eye On Annapolis Daily News Brief.

First things first… Happy Birthday to Bridgett, our own Beepr Buzz, who brings us the up-to-date nightlife scoop every Wednesday. Today she is celebrating her BEEP th birthday! So if you see her out and about–wish her well.  OK, let’s get into the news,  shall we?

Governor Hogan gave Tik Tok the boot. Yesterday he issued a directive banning the app on all state computers, phones, tablets, and networks. This is the biggest name among the brand banned, but pretty much any Chinese or Russian-influenced software, product, or platform is now verboten across the State. The Governor cited the FBI’s warning of their concern about cyber espionage. Now all you kids out there.. this is only for state employees– you all are free to Tik Tok all you want.

The Naval Academy pulled off a great Army-Navy prank. They flew three planes to West Point, and at noon on December 5th, they dropped ping pong balls all marked “Beat Army” and “Go Navy” along with leaflets on their campus right in the middle of the Cadet’s noon formation. They made four passes before taking a circle around the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor and then heading back to the team that will be victorious on Saturday! The mission was dubbed “Operation Black Knight Falling.” We do have images of the propaganda, the planes, and the campus at EyeOnAnnapolis.net

Sometimes I like to highlight a bizarre email I get. Today, it’s a bizarre Facebook post from our own K&B True Value Hardware. They are now selling African Dwarf Frogs. They are grey frogs that appear to live in a tiny aquarium. What the heck? This is a hardware store? But then again, I have always said they carry pretty much everything, and you will be amazed at what they DO carry. So, if you are looking for an African Dwarf Frog–no need to run to Home Depot, I guess!

Speaking of True Value, I was in there the other day before the frogs, and they have a great display full of fabulous stocking stuffers–from little Yeti mugs and tumblers to the great Duke Cannon soap that I love. Swing by and check it out.

I love a good mystery, and Historic Annapolis is looking to solve it on Sunday. An Admiral Heights family discovered two pieces of plywood, when put together, made up a sign listing the local postal workers that served in World War 2. And on Sunday, the Historic Annapolis Museum at the bottom of Main Street between 10 am and 2 pm they are gonna discuss it. I did not realize that they hold hands-on history days every second Sunday. Very cool. Admission is half price and if you haven’t seen the museum– do it!

And I am surprised we did not have any takers for the Pan Tillis tickets at Rams Head On Stage on Sunday evening. While she is a superstar in her own right–this is the daughter of the legendary Mel Tillis, and she’ll be belting out the repertoire of country hits and some Christmas songs. Wanna go? Send me a DM or an email, and I can hook you up!

Here’s your weekly reminder that Galway Bay’s Authentic Irish Egg Nog is here.  You can get it at Galway Bay, Killarney House, Pirates Cove, and Brian Boru.  You can order online at GalwayBayMD.com, and I have seen it at Bay Ridge Wine & Spirits, Scott Brothers Liquors, and the Liquor Mart & Deli.

And as we wrap it up, a fun story. KURU Footwear did some math about Christmas and came up with some astonishing numbers. If everyone left cookies and milk out for Santa, he’d consume 395 million cookies and 395 million glasses of milk, equating to 71.2 billion calories. Strangely, the milk has more calories than the cookies. Convert that to weight gain, and the jolly old man would gain 20.4 million pounds while delivering the toys. And to burn that off… he needs to walk around the planet 20,000 times–no sled involved. This might lead you to believe that it would be healthier to leave Santa some kale, perhaps? But I’m thinking not!

OK, and that’s a wrap on the news!  Pod news..up this weekend for the Local Business Spotlight is Steve Anderson from Third Eye Comics and next week is Gluten Free Bakery Girl–and YES, I need to get the George bonus pod out today with the winter forecast.

Alright, let’s put this puppy to bed with a quick thank you to you. And also to our sponsors for this Daily News Brief– Solar Energy Services, Scout & Molly’s, and Alpha Engineering!

So now you need to hang tight; George Young from DCMDVA Weather is standing by with your locally forecast weather report. And, of course, when you need the scoop on the Naptown nightlife, the birthday girl, Bridgett, is here to bring it to you with Annapolis After Dark! All that in just a bit, so hang tight!
