The Effects of THC-O Cannabinoid

| August 13, 2022, 06:00 PM

THC-O is the latest cannabinoid. It is similar to delta8 THC and other “new” cannabinoids. Some of these compounds are found in small amounts in cannabis plants, while others are not. These compounds are legal or semi-legal because they can be produced in large quantities from legal hemp plants.

What is THC-O?

THC-O, also known as THC acetate ester or O-acetyl D9-THC, is the acetate ester of THC. THC acetate is the most common name for it. Experts also call it ATHC or THC -Oa. However, almost everyone has changed its name to THC acetate. Some people remove the hyphen to call it THCO, THC O. It doesn’t matter how you spell it. It should be pronounced, “THC-oh”–that’s O, not zero.

THC-O, which is chemically identical to delta10 THC, and other hemp-derived cannabinoids, is almost identical to THC-9 THC, which dominates marijuana plants. Its effects are identical to that of delta 9. However, THC-O binds more closely to the body’s receptors than other THC forms. THC-O is also more intoxicating than either HHC or delta 8.

THC-O appears in all cannabis products, including edibles, vaporizers, and oils. THC-O disposable vapes and vape carts come with unflavored distillate or with added flavor terpenes. Making tinctures with THC-O is also possible by mixing it with edible oils such as MCT. THC-O edibles are also available, such as gummies or chocolates. The “THC-O” flower is a THC-infused hemp flower.

What are the effects THC-O has on your body?

Like the other THC-derived hemp varieties, the big question is: Does THC-O get your high? Yes, it does. THC-O is believed to be 2-3x more potent than the delta 9 THC found within marijuana.

According to most accounts, THC-O is more powerful than delta 8 and provides a more intense experience than any other form of THC.

THC-O is stronger than any other form of THC. However, the psychoactive effects are very different. Many users of THC-O report psychedelic effects. Drug sellers and experts say new users should take this powerful cannabinoid very slowly.

Another reason to slow down is that THC-O’s effects are always delayed. THC-O is a “prodrug,” which means the THC-O that you inhale or swallow is not pre-activated with heat (the process known as decarboxylation). Like THC edibles, THC-O affects you only after it’s processed in the body.

You won’t feel any effects for between 20 and 60 minutes, regardless of whether you are vaping THC-O or eating THC gummies. Initially, take in a small amount, then wait for your body to respond.

Is THC-O likely to appear during a drug test?

It is not known how THC-O is processed in the body. THC-O is an acetate ester of THC. Drug tests are almost certain to detect THC metabolites within the blood, urine, and hair of THC-O users. Although there isn’t any information about how long THC O remains in the body, it is safe to assume it can be detected for as long as delta9 THC, possibly for weeks or even months.

This warning applies to THC and delta 8, 10, and HHC. If your employer is testing for marijuana, it is best to avoid THC.

Is THC-O considered safe?

To produce THC-O is certainly risky. Acetic anhydride can be flammable and could cause fire or explosion. It can only be made by professionals familiar with the process, just like butane hash oils (BHO).

Some do not consider THC-O safe because of the lack of research on its effects on the body. You should learn all you can about THC-O.

Is THC-O legally legal?

The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp, all its compounds, and derivatives as long as they contained less than 0.3 percentage delta 9 THC. As per the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling in May 2022 that delta 8 THC was a federally legal hemp product. Although some attorneys caution that other federal courts could reach different conclusions, the decision provides some protection for hemp-derived cannabinoid sellers and manufacturers. This ruling appears to apply to other hemp-derived cannabinoids, such as THC-O.

Some state legislatures have started to ban hemp-derived products or restricted sales to state-controlled dispensaries. It’s not unusual for the legal cannabis industry to push for restrictions on these cannabis products. These cannabis products compete with marijuana and concentrate sold in licensed dispensaries.

Many states have banned sales of delta 8, the first intoxicating hemp-derived cannabinoid. THC-O has not been banned yet, but some states may be present to disrupt the fun if it becomes more commercially viable.

Many of the same online retailers sell THC-O products (and delta eight and delta 10 HHC, THC-P) THC-O products can also be purchased in convenience stores and head shops as well as gas stations and vape shops.
