Good morning, it is Wednesday, June 29th,  2022 and THIS is your Eye On Annapolis Daily News Brief.

I can’t believe we are headed into Fourth of July weekend already–and haven’t even gotten a taste of the dog days of summer!  But hey, I’ll take it.  OK let’s get into today’s news, shall we?

Well, as we do head into the Fourth of July, it is time for our annual don’t be a fool segment. Leave the pyrotechnics to the pros. And we have options here– Annapolis City on Monday the 4th at about 9 pm. And the Baysox have an amazing show set for after the game on Sunday. But if you insist on lighting off your own stuff, the Annapolis Fire Department has some safety suggestions and we have them all on EyeOnAnnapolis.net so check them out. And here’s something I learned yesterday, Maryland law prohibits crossing state lines with fireworks–punishable with fines up to $250 PER DEVICE!  And there are some fireworks that are full-on illegal which can lead to felony charges, fines, and jail.  They say the general rule of thumb in Maryland is that if it launches, explodes, or flies–it is likely illegal!

I did something cool yesterday. Jared Littmann with K&B True Value Hardware and Rick Peters from Solar Energy Services along with the requisite politicians because it IS an election year…cut the ribbon on a new solar system Jared installed at the store. It cost him just over $200,000 but with incentives, tax breaks, and all he will get 64% of that back in the first year, recover the rest by year 7, and then will be without an electricity bill for 25 plus years.  And he estimates that the value of those missed bills to be $270,000.  A great financial investment but more importantly a great investment in clean and renewable energy.  And also a great partnership with two local companies!., On hand were Mayor Buckley, County Executive Pittman, Senator Elfreth, Delegate Jones, and  Councilwoman Rodvien. Afterward, we went to the roof to check out the goods.. and thanks to Councilwoman Rodvien who may have topped me from falling off after I slipped in a puddle!  I owe her one!

And it is a quiet news day, so here is some information that if you don’t heed, I will be saying I told you so in a few weeks.  On September 10th…yes I know it is a long way off, but listen… it is the annual Boatyard Beach Bash. It’s the 17th iteration, and it ALWAYS sells out. Food, drink, and music from a number of Coral Reefers–Jimmy Buffet’s band! The Boatyard Bar & Gill sponsors it each year and it is a great somewhat low-key party! And here’s where you need to listen up–tickets are on sale now at amaritime.org  and they likely will NOT be on sale in two weeks because they will sell out!  So, if this sounds like a fun night–in the words of Bill Engvall..here’s your sign!

OK and that’s a wrap on the news!  Pod news… up this weekend on the Local Business Spotlight, Tru Centered Chiropractic, and next week– Daylyy. Might have a bonus pod later this week… a bit later this morning, we’re talking to Lila t Heroes and about the community effort to step to the plate for Sailor Oyster Bar in the wake of their fire!

Again, a bit of housekeeping–we are taking a break on Friday the 1st of July and Monday the 4th to celebrate the holiday and take a bit of a break. We’ll be watching and not playing with fireworks in Annapolis!  Just so you know–no DNB!

OK, so let’s wrap this puppy up with a quick thank you to our sponsors for this Daily News Brief– Solar Energy Services, the Kristi Neidhardt Team of Northrop Realty, a Long and Foster Company, and the Alpha Engineering!

OK, so now you need to hang tight,  George Young from DCMDVA Weather is standing by with your locally forecast weather report. And of course, we have Bridgett aka Beepr Buzz with all your music news in Annapolis After Dark!   All that in just a bit, so hang tight!
