Suspect Shoots at Officers in Cape St Claire

UPDATE 2:00 pm: The Anne Arundel County Police do not believe there is a public threat and have said people no longer need to shelter-in-place. All lockdowns at schools have been lifted. According to a spokeswoman, A woman confronted a white teenaged male wearing camouflage with a backpack and a handgun in the woods just before 9:00 am and asked what he was doing. The suspect replied, “just shooting small critters.” The woman called 911 which initiated a multi-jurisdictional response to include Maryland State Police and the DNR’s Natural Resources Police.

An officer was in the area and heard a pop and his rear window shattered and he called for assistance. At this point, police are not sure if the window was shot or if it was some sort of mechanical failure of the vehicle. They do have a suspect and believe they know where he is located. They do not know if the gun was a real handgun or an air-soft type gun at this point.

Anne Arundel County Police are asking the public to shelter in place and avoid the area near Hilltop Road and Blue Ridge Drive in the Cape St. Claire neighborhood near Annapolis.

Police responded to the area for an armed suspect and when they arrived, shots were fired at a police car shattering a window.  The suspect is still at large.
