Good morning, it is Tuesday, August 10th,  2021 and THIS is your Eye On Annapolis Daily News Brief.

Boy, what a crappy end to my Monday. Eye On Annapolis is coming off a DDOS attack which is a denial of service–essentially, bots just bombard the site causing the server CPUs to be eaten alive until it crashes. Granted it would be impressive to my sponsors to brag about 59,000 unique visitors a day along with 1.65 million page views per day! Ha! So, the last half of my day was spent working with the amazing guys at Merisign here in Annapolis who are my contracted maintenance people–worth every penny and my undying thanks! But we should be fine now–the bots moved along late last night it seems, but for a bit, you may get a splash screen before the site saying we’re verifying your browser..just making sure you are seemingly legit–no judgment. OK, now that is off my chest, let’s get into the news..shall we?

The top story today, in my opinion, is one from Brooks at The Capital. He’s been following the lawsuit filed by George Gallagher and Herb McMillan against the City for mailing ballots to every registered voter. The main gist of the argument was that the City, according to code could not pay for postage. Seemed like a weaker argument to me than the scepter for fraud, but.. and Judge Greg Klavans tossed it with prejudice..meaning they cannot re-file the same suit. However, they can appeal it, but they need to act quickly because the Republican Central Committee did not appoint anyone to run in any unfilled slots so the City can technically start printing ballots today. And I guess congrats at this point to Elly Tierney and Rob Savidge who are unchallenged in the primary and the general elections–welcome to your next four years on the Council.

County Executive Pittman loves to hear what residents think. So now, he is looking for feedback on the police department. There is a survey that is completely anonymous and will be open for 30 days. So you can go in and tell them about your interactions with the po-po– good or bad. Head to for the link–we’ll have that story up in just a little bit.

In what may be the first of many announcements like this I am afraid, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra announces yesterday that they will be requiring proof of vaccination AND masks at all indoor performances this season. The orchestra and staff are 100% vaccinated they say. Outdoor performances, like Pops in the Park at Quiet Waters, will adhere to the venue’s policies. The ASO opens their season this year on October 1 at Maryland Hall.

Annapolis is having an event on Saturday at City Dock. To commemorate what would have been Alex Haley’s 100th birthday. Actually, his birthday is the 11th. Haley is the author of Roots which depicted the story of Kunte Kinte who was sold into slavery right at City Dock. He also ghostwrote The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Chris Haley, the author’s nephew will have some remarks as will Mayor Buckley who will give the key to the City to the Haley Family. Other speakers will include Delegate Shaneka Henson, Carl Snowden, and poet, Marcus Hayes. Erica Griswold will be the emcee. Again, 10 am on Saturday the 14th at City Dock!

And ON Alex Haley’s birthday…Wednesday, August 11th, FEMA is going to make you jump. They will be testing the national Emergency Alert System at 2:20 pm. Most everyone’s cell phone will go off at one time and everyone will be startled and then remember and settle down. This is a relatively new system and is only used for 5 reasons–presidential alerts (and I think Trump did one), Imminent Threat Alerts, Public Safety Alerts, Amber Alerts, and localized text messages for local authorities. So just beware!

And finally, it’s ticket Tuesday. I am still stressed about the DDOS attack so let’s make it easy. Just post a tweet or a Facebook post saying that you listen to the Eye On Annapolis Daily News Brief..make sure you tag us @eyeonannapolis on Twitter and All Annapolis on Facebook and I will choose a bunch of winners for Mike Love (not THAT Mike Love..this guy is reggae) at Rams Head On Stage on the 20th and then Hollis Brown–who we just spoke to yesterday–his show is on the 27th. And for many of the rest of you, I have a bunch of $25 gift cards to Chesepiooc Real Ale Brewing in Crofton. And after last night–I could use a drink! So an easy one this week. We’ll announce the winners tomorrow, so make sure you do your posts by this evening!

OK, that’s it for the news, but first a quick thank you to the four sponsors for the Daily News Brief– Solar Energy Services, the Kristi Neidhardt Team of Northrop Realty, a Long and Foster Company,  Rehab 2 Perform who just opened up at 1750 Forest Drive and MacMedics in Severna Park and Lanham!

Alrighty,  now hang tight, George Young from DCMDVA Weather is here with your locally forecast weather! And he’ll be here in just a minute!
