Baysox Score Five Unanswered En Route to 44th Win

Baysox Field

After falling behind 3-0, the Bowie Baysox (44-30) saw Malquin Canelo hit a two-run home run and Kyle Stowers hit a three-run homer to defeat the Richmond Flying Squirrels (39-37) on Friday night at The Diamond in a game that was delayed 35 minutes because of rain.

The first batter out of the rain delay, Will Wilson, hit a solo home run to put the Flying Squirrels in front 2-0. Richmond added one more in the fifth for what would end up being their last run of the night. The Flying Squirrels left at least one man on base in six of the nine innings.

Adley Rutschman walked to lead off the sixth, and Canelo entered to pinch hit for Patrick Dorrian. Canelo’s pinch-hit home run was the first hit recorded by a pinch hitter this season for Bowie, and it was the first pinch hit home run since a Chris O’Brien home run on May 3, 2015.

One inning later, with two men on, Kyle Stowers hit his eighth home run for Bowie, and his 15th total home run of the season, to put Bowie in front for good.

Grayson Rodriguez only threw two innings in a shortened start because of the rain delay. He allowed one run on one hit with three walks and three strikeouts. Luis Perez came on in relief and threw 3.2 innings and allowed two runs on five hits.

The back end of the bullpen did the job again for Bowie, as Tim Naughton and Felix Bautista combined to strike out the final four batters of the game, with Bautista earning his second save with Bowie.

The Baysox return home on August 10th for a series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
