Police investigating second fatal pedestrian accident in past 24 hours

Less than 24 hours after a bicyclist was killed in Pasadena, the Anne Arundel County Police are investigating another fatal pedestrian accident which occured this evening in Glen Burnie.

On November 21, 2020, at approximately 5:51 p.m., officers responded to the area of Ritchie Hwy southbound and 6th Ave in Glen Burnie Maryland for a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

The investigation revealed that an unknown male pedestrian was crossing Ritchie Hwy south of 6th Ave outside of a crosswalk. This area is dark, and the pedestrian was dressed in all dark clothing with no reflective features. For unknown reasons the pedestrian was either bent over or crouched down in the center lane of Ritchie Highway. At that same time, a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse was travelling southbound on Ritchie Hwy when the vehicle struck the pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian came to rest in the center grassy median and the driver of the Chevrolet stopped and called 911 for assistance.

The male pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Preliminarily, the primary cause of this crash is pedestrian error. It is unknown if alcohol or drug use may be a contributing factor in this crash on the part of the pedestrian.

At this time, the identity of the male pedestrian is unknown as he had no identification on his person. Forensic methods (fingerprints) are being used to assist in his identification.
