Construction worker serioulsy injured after being struck by car on College Parkway

The Anne Arundel County Police are investigating a serious accident that occured this morning on College Parkway in Arnold that sent a pedestrian to the R. Adams Cowley Shock-Trauma Center with serious injuries.

On Saturday, November 21, 2020, at approximately 7:56 a.m., officers responded to the area of College Parkway and Green Holly Drive in Annapolis Maryland for a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

The investigation revealed that a 62-year old male pedestrian was working as part of a construction crew on westbound College Parkway west of Green Holly Drive fully on the right hand shoulder. The pedestrian was wearing high visibility reflective clothing and was standing behind a pickup truck that was displaying flashing amber lighting.

Just west of the pickup truck were several other construction vehicles with amber lights flashing and numerous other workers clothed in high visibility reflective clothing.

At that time, a Chevrolet Aveo was turning right from Green Holly Drive onto westbound College Parkway. During the turn, the Chevrolet drove completely onto the right shoulder and struck the pedestrian. The impact lodged the pedestrian between the Chevrolet and a rear metal platform causing substantial injuries to his legs. Responding officers applied tourniquets to the pedestrian’s legs in order to control bleeding. The male pedestrian was flown to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore by Maryland State Police helicopter. The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured.

Preliminarily, the primary cause of this crash is failure to drive in a single lane on the part of the Chevrolet. It is not believed that alcohol is a contributing factor in this crash.
