AMFM hops on the Giving Tuesday bandwagon with a chance for a signed PRS guitar

Annapolis Musicians Fund for Musicians (AMFM), which was recently named “Foundation of the Year” by the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County, will be participating in the global generosity movement GivingTuesday. Its goal is to raise $15,000 to rebuild its emergency funds, which were depleted during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic. GivingTuesday kicks off its 2020 season by inspiring people to give back on December 1st as well as throughout the year.

“When the pandemic closed down area music venues, the board worked tirelessly to provide emergency financial relief to affected musicians before other forms of assistance were available,” says Matt McConville, AMFM’s president and founder. “In just 12 weeks, we processed and approved over 180 applications from 76 area musicians who lost gigs. Over $115,000 in benefits was awarded.

“Before COVID, we’d primarily raise funds through our sold-out “An Annapolis Christmas” and “In The Vane Of” shows at Rams Head On Stage, showcasing local professional talent,” says AMFM’s vice president, P. J. Thomas. “Given current safety concerns, we cannot hold these concerts. So we’re joining the GivingTuesday campaign, hoping to educate folks about our unique, effective organzation.”

GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past eight years, it  has grown into a global movement, with hundreds of millions of giving and collaborating. “GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about,” say Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, and co-founder.

As part of its fundraising campaign, AMFM will be raffling off donated music merchandise, including a signed PRS guitar.
