USNA to close yard to visitors

USNA 175The United States Naval Academy just released the following statement closing off the yard (campus) effective tomorrow at 5:00pm.

As a precautionary measure, and in response to the global spread of COVID-19, the U.S. Naval Academy will temporarily close to the general population beginning Tuesday, Mar. 17, 2020 at 5 p.m. While we understand this action will be disappointing to some, the health and safety of the Naval Academy community, including our visitors, is our top priority.

This restriction does not impact access for all authorized visitors, which includes USNA residents; faculty, staff, and coaches; Department of Defense-issued Common Access Card (CAC) ID card holders; dependent/retiree ID card holders; Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) card holders; or anyone conducting official business.

Gate 3 will be accessible via turnstile only; all other gate hours remain unchanged.

No cases of COVID-19 have been reported at the Naval Academy and this decision is solely precautionary. USNA leadership will continue to evaluate the situation and take risk-based measures to safeguard our community as well as our visitors.

Our multidisciplinary COVID-19 Working Group continues to meet regularly to monitor and mitigate impacts to our mission. Please see the updated coronavirus guidance on our official website for more information, as well as listings of closures around the yard: https://www.usna.edu/COVID-19/.
