Local restaurants and organizations join forces to support community

In response to the devastating affect that the COVID-19 Crisis is having on both access to food for the food insecure, and on local businesses, particularly the restaurant industry,  Anne Arundel Connecting Together (ACT) and Monica Alvarado, owner of Bread and Butter Kitchen in Eastport, have created Feed Anne Arundel, a partnership that will both support local restaurants and provide meals for community members in need during the COVID 19 crisis.

The unprecedented current situation is having a devastating effect on the restaurant industry in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. Many have had to cut hours, lay off employees or shut down completely. At the same time, many residents who were already food insecure are experiencing even more insecurity as access to food is limited, stores are low in stock, and personal economies are in turmoil.  Feed Anne Arundel aims to support our community by paying local restaurants to make food for those in need. This will allow restaurants to pay their employees and keep their lights on. We are working with restaurants throughout the county to ensure the greatest coverage.

To initiate the effort, Feed Anne Arundel has started a GoFund me campaign that can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/f/feed-anne-arundel They have connected with AA County Partnership for Children, Youth, and Families. In the immediate future, Feed Anne Arundel is planning to join them at their mobile food pantries to provide prepared meals in addition to groceries. There are three scheduled over the next three weeks at which they will need to provide meals to feed over 600 people.

Please consider donating to Feed Anne Arundel and joining them to support our residents in need and our local businesses. Every penny counts. Your donation will support so many people – from cooks and servers to local families in need – the ripple effect will be felt across our community.

If you are interested in participating in this effort beyond a donation to the GoFundMe, please see the contact information below.
