Davidsonville crash sends two to shock-trauma

UPDATE: The Anne Arundel County Police have advised that the 49-year old Edgewater woman passed away from her injuries.

The Anne Arundel County Police are investigating a two vehicle crash that occurred late this afternoon near the intersection of Route 424 and Rutland Road in Davidsonville.

On March 16, 2020 at approximately 5:24 pm, Anne Arundel County Police officers responded to the area of Davidsonville Road (MD 424) and Rutland Road in Davidsonville for a serious motor vehicle collision.

Preliminary investigation determined that a Honda Civic, operated by a 17-year old from Crofton, was traveling northbound on Davidsonville Road just south of Rutland Road when for unknown reasons, crossed the center of the roadway and struck a Honda CR-V, operated by a 49-year old woman from Edgewater in the southbound lane. The driver of the CR-V was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with life threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda Civic was also transported to Shock Trauma with serious injuries.

The primary cause of the crash appears to be the driver of the Honda Civic failing to remain in a single lane. At this time, speed and alcohol are not believed to be a contributing factor. The crash remains under investigation by the Traffic Safety Section.
