1 bicyclist dead, several injured after car strikes group on College Parkway

UPDATE 2:
Jon Korin, President of Bicycle Advocates for Annapolis and Anne Arundel was among the group of riders. He was not injured, but posted this to the group’s Facebook page.

I was with the group today when a driver struck and killed one of us and seriously injured two others. My heart goes out to the family of the deceased and hoping for a full and speedy recovery for the injured. I will not discuss details and encourage others not to speculate. The EMS, police and states attorney response was outstanding and we will leave it to the professionals to assemble the facts and apply the law to the maximum extent possible. I am 100% fine but shaken and will continue my efforts to make our roads safe for ALL users.

UPDATE 1:

This was a group of 7 bicyclists that were riding from the B&A Trail to Sandy Point State Park and back. They were struck by a SUV on the return trip. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene.

Just before 1:00pm today, the Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the intersection of East College Parkway and Bay Head Road for a bicyclist versus car accident.

Police are still investigating, but it appears that a group of cyclists was struck by a vehicle with one bicyclist sustained fatal injuries.  Two others were flown to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore in unknown condition.  The status of any additional injuries (or the existence of any injuries) is unknown at this time.
