UPDATE #1: From the 8am press conference:
This is related to the death investigation/homicide on Newfield Road earlier in the day. Police say the victim’s car in that case was missing. Officers spotted the car being driven by the person of interest and attempted a traffic stop at around 11pm last night on Ft. Smallwood Road near the Baltimore City line.
The suspect fired at Detective Scott Ballard, a 22 year veteran of the AACoPD. Ballard was able to call for help and get medical attention. He is currently in critical, but stable condition in an area hospital.
A second detective, identified as Detective Ian Priest Preece continued the pursuit. The suspect fled the vehicle on foot on Hilltop Road in thew Stoney Beach community and multiple rounds of gunfire were exchanged. Detective Priest was hit and he is currently in stable condition in an area hospital.
The suspect is still at large. County Police Chief Timothy Altomare pled for the suspect to turn himself in,” Every minute you stretch this out, the more dangerous it becomes for cops and yourself.” He asked the community and the family of the suspect to come forward and assist the police saying that everyone “will be safer by turning himself in.”
County Executive Pittman said ” Everything humanly possible will be done to hunt down the man responsible for this.”
The manhunt will continue and residents of the area should expect to see a heavy (50 or more) police presence including going door to door. Chief Altomare appealed to residents to cooperate with police and to stay inside if possible.
When asked about the relationship to the earlier homicide, police did not release the name of that victim, nor the name of the suspect; however, they did say that the relationship between the suspect and the deceased was unknown at this time.
Last night around 11:00pm, two Anne Arundel County police officers were shot in Pasadena. Details are still coming in at this point, please check back for an update.
Anne Arundel County Detectives were investigating a suspicious death late yesterday afternoon and developed a person of interest in what they believe may be a homicide.

Around 11:00pm, they located the person of interest and attempted to make a traffic stop in the area of Ft. Smallwood Road and Pittman Road.
The suspect opened fire on one of the detectives striking him and fled the area. That officer was able to get medical attention and the second officer continued the pursuit into the Stoney Beach community. The suspect and the second detective exchanged gunfire as well in the area of Hilltop Road in Stoney Beach and the second detective was struck.
Both officers were transported to an area hospital and they are said to be in stable condition.
The suspect is described as a tall (6′) skinny white male with neck tattoos. He is still at large and is considered dangerous.
As a precaution, the Anne Arundel County Public Schools have cancelled all classes for all schools in the . Northeast cluster while the suspect is still at large and a potential threat exists.
5:55 a.m., 2/6/20: Due to an ongoing police search for a shooting suspect, all schools in the Northeast cluster will be closed for students and staff today.
All other schools will operate on normal hours.

Police are urging residents in the area to be vigilant and to call 911 if they see anything suspicious like someone in a back yard. They also advised there would be a large police presence in the area today including helicopters.
