Principal clarinetist Robert DiLutis to be featured artist with ASO

Principal clarinetist Robert DiLutis of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra is the featured artist of the fourth Masterworks concert of the 2019-2020 season, Beethoven Discovers America. Music Director José-Luis Novo leads the Symphony through two performances on Friday & Saturday, March 20 & 21, 2020 at the Symphony’s home, Maryland Hall. DiLutis will perform a rousing rendition of Copland’s Clarinet Concerto. The program will also include Haydn’s Symphony No. 104, London and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8.

Robert DiLutis is Associate Professor of Clarinet at the University of Maryland and in his fourth season as Principal clarinetist of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. DiLutis previously taught at Louisiana State University and held positions with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, and Eastman School of Music. His recent recitals and classes have included ClarinetPasto in Colombia South America, Cincinnati Clarinet Mini-Fest, University of Michigan, Interlochen Arts Academy, and Clarinetfest, Madrid, Spain and Ostend, Belgium.

Born in Baltimore to a family of musicians, DiLutis studied with William Blayney and later at the Juilliard School with David Weber of the NYC Ballet. In 1989, he made his Carnegie Recital Hall debut as the winner of the Artist International Chamber Music Competition. As a soloist, DiLutis has performed with the San Antonio Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and Baton Rouge Symphony. DiLutis has toured with the New York Philharmonic and is co-director of the Clarinet Academy of America. In addition to his performance career, DiLutis is the creator of the Reed Machine, a reed making device used by top professionals around the world. DiLutis is an Artist for Buffet, and his new CD Clarinet Classics at Riversdale is available on the Delos label.
