Black History Month continues at the Anne Arundel County Public Library

Anne Arundel County Public Library is offering the following programs to celebrate African American History Month.

 

A Taste of African Music and Culture

Saturday, February 15 at 2 pm at the Brooklyn Park Library

Saturday, February 22 at 2 pm at the Severn Library

This program offers an opportunity to explore African games, songs, drumming and dancing in a fun learning environment.

BESA

Saturday, February 15 at 2 pm at the Crofton Library

BESA, which means “Come Dance” in the Akan language of Ghana, is a fun aerobic and cardio workout that uses African dance forms and techniques.

Culture Queen’s Dance Party

Wednesday, February 12 at 10:30 am at the Linthicum Library

Join Culture Queen on an interactive journey through the Swinging 60’s as she teaches your royal children the hottest dances of the era.

For preschoolers

African American History Month Movie: Killer of Sheep (NR, 1977)

Thursday, February 13 at 6:30 pm at the Severna Park Library

African American Oystermen on the Chesapeake

Saturday, February 15 at 10:30 am at the Edgewater Library

Relive the days of the life of an African American Oysterman. Tie on an apron and step back in time with us in this hands on program.

For elementary school students through adults

Printmaking Workshop for Kids

Saturday, February 15 at 2 pm the Edgewater Library

Explore the printmaking process by making a creative relief print inspired by artist Elizabeth Catlett. This workshop is presented by the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture.

African Beats

Tuesday, February 18 at 10 am at the Deale Library

Tap your feet to Jazz while listening to a story about musicians from the past. Children will handle musical instruments and decorate an instrument with water color paint.

World Music: Africa

Friday, February 21 at 10:30 am at Discoveries: The Library at the Mall

Explore the rich cultural traditions of African music, song and dance with your child.

Crownsville Hospital: from Lunacy to Legacy

Saturday, February 22 at 2 pm at Discoveries: The Library at the Mall

Join us for a special showing, followed by Q&A with the director and producer, Todd Stevens.
