Black Bears silence Rebels in shutout win

The Maryland Black Bears played a pivotal matchup against the Jamestown Rebels Friday night. Tonight had huge playoff implications with the North American Hockey League’s East Division being closer than ever. After a grueling sixty minutes of hockey, the Maryland Black Bears prevailed with a 3-0 win over the Rebels.

The Black Bears scored a goal in each of the three periods to secure the win. The first goal came from Maryland forward Cameron Recchi as he deflected a shot from defenseman Hampus Rydqvist for a 1-0 lead. The second goal game from Black Bear forward Jude Kurtas as he jammed in a rebound to make it 2-0. The final goal of the game came from forward Logan Kittleson off a dazzling effort. Kittleson got the puck and shot it between his legs for a top-shelf goal and a 3-0 lead which would hold up as the final score. Cooper Black made 18 saves for his second shutout of the season for the Black Bears.

Honorary captain Parker Hall earned third-star honors, Black Bears’ goalie Cooper Black received second-star honors, and forward Cameron Recchi was awarded first-star honors.

Maryland and Jamestown square off again for game two of the series Saturday, February 29th at Piney Orchard Ice Arena with a puck drop time of 7:45 PM ET.
