Black Bears break point streak and fall to Knights

The Maryland Black Bears lost to the WBS-Knights 4-2, Saturday afternoon. The loss follows a 4-3 OT loss on Friday night and completes the weekend sweep for the Knights. The franchise record eight-point streak has come to an end.

The first period was dominated by the Black Bears. Assistant Captain Hampus Rydqvist scored the first goal of the game with assists from Kyle Oleksiuk and Cameron Recchi. Black Bears’ Goalie Andrew Takacs masterfully deflected all of the Knights’ 19 shots away throughout the first twenty. Logan Kittleson scored the final goal of the period with an assist from Filip Jakobsson. The Black Bears went into the locker room with a 2-0 lead.

Not much action in the second period other than a Knights goal from Artur Turansky that halved the Black Bear lead. The Black Bears were outshot by the Knights 14-12 and the Bears ended the period with a narrow 2-1 lead.

The third period was all Knights. Lincoln Hatten scored to tie the game up at 2-2 with an assist from Tyrone Bronte. A few moments later Zak Currie gave the Knights a 3-2 lead. The Knights finished the game with 4 unanswered goals that were completed with an empty netter from Lincoln Hatten.

The Black Bears will continue their road trip next weekend as travel to play the Johnstown Rebels on January 17th and 18th.
