The Anne Arundel County Fire Department has released some more information about this morning’s blaze on Newport Avenue in the Arundel on the Bay community in Annapolis.
Firefighters responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a dwelling fire at 3526 Newport Avenue. They arrived to find heavy fire conditions from the two-story, single-family dwelling with a neighboring home at 3528 Newport threatened.
The two adult occupants who were home at the time of the fire evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters requested a second alarm, bringing 76 firefighters to the scene. The home is located in an area without public water service.
Firefighters initially used water carried on the engines and tankers to fight the fire until an open water drafting site was established at Magnolia Avenue and Cohasset Avenue, 1200 feet away.
The fire was brought under control in about 70 minutes, with substantial damage done to the home at 3526 and damage to the exterior of 3528.
As a result of the fire, the two adult occupants of 3526 have been displaced. It is not believed that the occupants of 3528 will be displaced from their home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit. There were no reports of injuries.
