Johnstown scored the first two goals of the game thanks to Christian Gorscak and Brendan Blair. Reid Leibold was able to cut the lead in half with his first goal as a Maryland Black Bear. Anthony Mollica shot the puck from the point, and it hit off the boards right back in front of the net where Leibold lifted the puck over Johnstown goalie David Tomeo and in to make it 2-1.

The period started with Maryland goalie Andrew Takacs making an amazing glove save on an odd-man rush just seconds into the second period. Jackson Sterrett scored moments later with his second shorthanded goal of the season to tie the game 2-2. Sterrett got a pass from Andrew Remer and went in on a breakaway where he shot it top left side off the crossbar and in. Aden Bruich then scored his fourth goal in three games by deflecting a Thomas Jarmin shot to give Maryland a 3-2 lead. Bruich struck one more time before the second period was done on the powerplay, shooting a rebound on his backhand past Tomeo and in for a 4-2 lead. Bruich’s goal marked his third point of the second period.

The third period saw the Tomahawks respond to the dominant second period with a dominant period of their own. Max Kouznetsov scored twice, once on a two-on-one rush and another via deflection, to tie the game for Johnstown. The Black Bears then took a penalty in the final seconds of the third period, setting up for Johnstown defenseman Malik Alishlalov to score on the power play and win the game in overtime for the Tomahawks 5-4. This is only the second time in franchise history the Black Bears were rewarded a point in a game in Johnstown.

Maryland will look for its first-ever win in Johnstown Saturday night, with a 7:00 PM ET puck drop at 1stSummit Arena at Cambria County War Memorial.
