Woman dies after being shot on Ben’s Drive in Annapolis

Last night, October 16, 2019, at 10:33pm, the Annapolis Police Department and the Annapolis Fire Departments were dispatched to reports of a woman who had been shot in the unit block of Ben’s Drive in the Bay Ridge Gardens community of Annapolis.

When officers arrived, they discovered an adult female victim, identified as Tiara Taylor, 30,  who had been struck by gunfire. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Taylor’s most recent address was on Ben’s Drive.

Police are not releasing any more information at this time. This is an active and fluid investigation and we urge anyone with information about this incident to contact APD detectives at 410-260-3439.

This is the third homicide in the City this year and the first under newly minted Police Chief Edward Jackson’s watch. The most recent was July 1, when a teen was gunned down on a field in HACA’s Eastport Terrace community.

On Thursday, Mayor Buckley issued a statement regarding the shooting.

I was distressed to learn of the shooting death of a 30-year-old woman in Bay Ridge Gardens last night. We’ve committed resources around the clock to solving this crime.

There may be several witnesses who have information about this incident. Please know that you can remain anonymous by calling Metro Crime Stoppers (1-866-756-2587).

The safety of residents is of the utmost importance to me as mayor and to the Annapolis Police, who seek community cooperation to solve the crime.  Please help to keep our neighborhoods safe.

There will be a vigil for the slain woman tonight at 6:00pm in the community.
