Maryland Black Bears rout the Jamestown Rebels

The Maryland Black Bears snapped a two-game losing streak Friday night, defeating the Jamestown Rebels in dominant fashion 6-2. Maryland goaltender Andrew Takacs made 35 saves in his first win of the season and fifth overall for the Black Bears.

Jordan Comier struck first for the Jamestown Rebels in the first period, burying a rebound past a sprawled out Takacs. However, the Black Bears had a perfect response with a four goal second period. It started out with forward Kyle Oleksiuk find the rebound of an Ethan Heidepriem shot and went forehand to back and beat Jamestown goalie Noah West to tie it at 1-1. Less than two minutes later, Wilmer Skoog slammed home a shot on a two-on-one rush to give Maryland the lead.

The third goal was scored by Logan Kons, but would never have happened without heroics from Black Bears’ defenseman Hampus Rydqvist. Rydqvist hustled to the goal line after a shot beat Andrew Takacs and had some Rebels players in celebration, but Rydqvist swept it away before it could cross the line. The puck went down the other way, where Maryland defenseman Logan Kons got the puck on the blue line and walked in to score on a wrist shot. Garrett Szydlowski capped off the scoring in the second period for the Black Bears with a wrist shot goal to make it 4-1.

Minutes into the third period Cameron Recchi scored his first goal as a Black Bear, tipping a Logan Kons shot past West for a 5-1 lead. Kyle Oleksuik added to that with a power-play goal and his second of the game, scoring on a low shot from the slot. Noah Finstrom scored one last goal for the Rebels but it was not enough, making the final score 6-2.

The Black Bears will rematch with the Rebels Saturday, October 19 with a 7:05 PM ET puck drop.
