Artificial Intelligence conference scheduled at USNA (Free and open to public)

The Naval Academy and the Naval Institute will host a one-day conference titled “The Promise and Risk of the AI Revolution” Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 8:55 a.m.-3:10 p.m. in Alumni Hall. The conference is free and open to the public.

Government, military, academic and industry leaders will gather to discuss the potential opportunities and dangers of advancing artificial intelligence (AI) in both military and civil capacities. Speakers will discuss the difference between the hype and reality of AI as well as ethical implications of its use.

On-site registration is available upon arrival; breakfast and lunch will be provided to registered participants. This event is made possible through support from the William M. Wood Foundation.

Keynote speakers include Dr. Sridhar Mahadevan, Director of the Data Science Lab at Adobe, and Dr. Prem Natarajan, vice president of Alexa AI.

Panel moderators are Dr. Ric Crabbe and Dr. Gavin Taylor from the Computer Science Department. Panelists include:

  • Dr. David Aha, Navy Center for Applied Research in AI at Naval Research Laboratory
  • Retired Navy Rear Adm. Brian Losey, partner at Shield AI
  • Ingrid Solis, Augmenting Intelligence using Machines Initiative at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence
  • Dr. Mary Cummings, director of the Humans and Autonomy Lab at Duke University
  • Dr. Michael Kearns, University of Pennsylvania
  • Air Force Lt. Gen. John Shanahan director, Joint Artificial Intelligence Center
  • Adam Wenchel, chief executive officer at ArthurAI, former vice president AI & Data Innovation at Capital One
