Zac Lowther worked five scoreless innings in his Double-A debut and the Baysox scored five runs in the third inning en route to a 6-2 win Sunday afternoon in Harrisburg, PA. With the win, Bowie salvaged a game in the opening four-game series of the season.
Lowther, the Orioles 2nd round draft choice in the supplemental phase of the 2017 draft was outstanding, working quickly in five scoreless innings while striking out six in his first start of 2019. The Baysox would hand Lowther the lead in a controversial third inning.
Bowie loaded the bases in just three pitches as Chris Clare was hit by a pitch, Sean Miller singled and Ryan McKenna laid down a bunt base hit up the third base line. It set the table for Rylan Bannon who laced a bases-clearing double down the left field line for a 3-0 lead. Harrisburg manager Matt LeCroy argued vehemently that the ball was foul and was tossed from the game.
The next batter, Yusniel Diaz added to the damage, with a line drive two-run home run into the left field seats. The Baysox had a 5-0 lead.
Brian Gonzalez worked two innings minimizing the damage in just his second career bullpen outing. And lead 6-2 in the eighth inning, Tanner Chleborad looked sharp in his 2019 debut striking four of seven batters faced to close the door on Bowie’s first win of the season.
