County Parks waive entrance fees this week in honor of Speaker Mike Busch

Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman announced that county government will honor the legacy of Speaker Michael E. Busch.

Mr. Busch was elected as a Delegate in District 30 in 1987 and served until his death on April 7, 2019. He served as Speaker of the House since 2003, becoming the longest-serving speaker in Maryland history. In addition to his elected office, Mr. Busch had a 39-year career in the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks as a youth athletics administrator.

“There is no way to measure how much Mike Busch did for Anne Arundel County,” said County Executive Pittman. “As we mourn his passing, we must also celebrate his life and incredible legacy of service.”

Pittman announced that entrance fees to all county parks will be waived for one week, beginning Monday, April 15.

“Sadness is the emotion that I and so many county residents are feeling at the passing of Speaker Busch, but gratitude is the message that we must convey,” said Pittman. “Now is the time to recognize the contributions that he so selflessly made to our people and to our quality of life.  Thank you, Speaker Busch.”.

On Tuesday, April 16, a funeral procession will transport Mr. Busch from the State House to St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Road in Annapolis. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am.
