The Baysox saw early advantages whittle away in both ends of a doubleheader Saturday evening in Harrisburg as the Senators used the long ball to sweep the double dip. Harrisburg claimed the opener 6-5 and won game two by a 4-2 final.
Bowie used the big inning to get up early in game one. With runners at the corners and two down in the second inning, Sean Miller jumped on a first pitch fastball to line an RBI-single to center to put Bowie on top 1-0. TJ Nichting followed in his first Eastern League at-bat with an RBI-single over shortstop to lead 2-0 and the Baysox weren’t done yet. Ryan McKenna got into a pitch on the outer half of the plate, driving a three-run, opposite field home run to right field for a 5-0 lead.
Baysox starter Hunter Harvey worked well early. He struck out five batters in three scoreless innings to open his first start of the year. Harrisburg would rally. They notched a run in the fourth inning and then went to work in the fifth. With one down, big league rehabber, Michael Taylor homered and after a two-out Austin Davidson single, Drew Ward brought Harrisburg within one with a two-run blast to right field.
Harvey was lifted after an opposite field double by Ian Sagdal and Spencer Kieboom reached following on a throwing error by Miller from short that tied the game at 5.
Harrisburg won the ballgame in the seventh with a bases loaded walk-off sac-fly to right field off the bat of Rhett Wiseman.
In Game Two the Baysox grabbed the early lead again. Rylan Bannon hit his first home run of the year to put Bowie atop 1-0 two batters into the game. And the Baysox aded on in the second inning on a CHris Clare RBI-single to center.
But the long ball foiled the Baysox again. Drew Ward lifted his second home run of the doubleheader, with a three-run home run off of Baysox starter Dillon Tate to grab a 3-2 lead for the Senators. The Clare second inning RBI-single would be Bowie’s final hit in the seven inning game. Wiseman added on with a sixth inning solo home run in the 4-2 Harrisburg win.
