Baysox endure third straight loss, 4-2

The Bowie Baysox bullpen threw five scoreless innings during a 4-2 loss to the Harrisburg Senators in front of 1,130 Friday night at Prince George’s Stadium.

After getting no-hit the night before, the Baysox (2-6) broke through three batters into the game. Yusniel Diaz skied a two-out triple down the right field line for the team’s first hit in Maryland in 2019. One batter later, Martin Cervenka lined a RBI infield single against the shift, scoring Diaz on a ball to where the second baseman would normally play.

The hosts doubled their lead with a run in the second inning. Ademar Rifaela led off with a wall-scraping double to right field. Two batters later, Chris Clare poked a RBI single through the left side of the drawn-in infield for his second RBI of the season.

The Senators (8-1) used a Drew Ward grand slam to take a 4-2 lead in the third inning, resulting in the only offense mustered against Bowie starter Hunter Harvey. The righty struck out six Senators in four innings of work, striking out the side during his final three batters of the night.

From the bullpen, Zach Muckenhirn recorded a pair of scoreless innings. After allowing a grand slam on Opening Night in Harrisburg, the lefty has thrown four straight scoreless frames in two outings. Tyler Erwin made his home debut by striking out the first four batters faced en route to a pair of scoreless innings, while Pedro Araujo surrendered three fly ball outs in a perfect ninth inning.

Bowie looks to snap their three-game losing streak with a day game Saturday afternoon. RHP Dillon Tate makes his 2019 home debut in the lone matinee start on a Saturday this season against Harrisburg and RHP Tyler Mapes.
