Applications being accepted to fill legislative seat of Speaker Busch

STATEMENT FROM THE ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CENTRAL COMMITTEE:

The Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee has begun the process of filling a vacancy left by the loss of one of Maryland’s most iconic leaders and a local hero, Speaker of the House of Delegates, Mike Busch.

The AACDCC is committed to the continuity of governance for the residents of legislative district 30A. Although our community is grieving the loss of our delegate of 32 years, the laws of Maryland dictate a short timeline for this process, the very laws Mr. Busch oversaw with such talent and skill during his many years of service. In accordance with the timeline required under law, we will be accepting applications to fill the House of Delegates seat in District 30A through 5:00 pm Wednesday, April 24th.

Applicants must be registered voters within the Democratic Party residing within legislative district 30A. They must be at least 21 years of age.

Interested applicants must send a resume and letter of interest explaining why they feel they are uniquely qualified to fill the seat via email to [email protected]. The deadline for this information to be received is 5:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. Candidates who submit documents after this time will not be considered.

The names of all applicants will be published on our website, www.annearundeldems.com, and on our social media, www.Facebook.com/AACDCC, shortly after the application deadline has passed.

The Committee’s elected members will meet at 6:00 pm Thursday, April 25 to begin interviews. We anticipate voting on the nomination that same evening.  A meeting location has yet to be determined but will be published on our website and social media and all candidates will be notified of the location in advance. The meeting will be open to the public; however public comment will not be accepted at the meeting. Written testimony regarding candidates should be emailed to [email protected] no later than 12 noon on Thursday, April 25 for full consideration.

The Committee will select one applicant to recommend for the position. The individual’s name will be forwarded to Governor Larry Hogan for his review.

Questions should be sent to [email protected].
