Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess recently announced that Brigido Lopez-Villa, 32, of Annapolis, was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge William C. Mulford, II to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing a minor.
“Mr. Lopez-Villa preyed upon the vulnerability of a child, and continually refuses to accept responsibility for the lasting trauma this victim will face as a result of the abuse, ” said Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess. “I’m grateful to the jury for their thoughtful deliberation in rendering this verdict, and to Judge Mulford for passing a sentence commensurate with the crime.”
On April 23, 2018, Annapolis Police received a report of child sex offense. Upon interviewing the victim at the Department of Social Services Child Advocacy Center, police learned that Lopez-Villa committed repeated acts of sexual abuse when the victim was approximately 8 years old. The victim lived in the same household as Lopez-Villa at the time the abuse occurred.

On January 11, 2019, Lopez-Villa was found guilty by an Anne Arundel County Circuit Court jury of sex abuse of a minor and four counts of third degree sex offense.

Maryland sentencing guidelines recommended a sentence between five to 12 years of active incarceration. Lopez-Villa was sentenced to 20 of active incarceration and is required to register as a Tier III sex offender for the remainder of his life.
Judge William C. Mulford, II presided over the case. Assistant State’s Attorney Reva Chopra prosecuted the case on behalf of the citizens of Anne Arundel County.
