Annapolis teen arrested after bringing loaded handgun to school

On March 1, 2019 at approximately 12:20 p.m., a School Resource Officer met with a staff member at The Phoenix Academy who discovered a purse-type bag containing a handgun that was left in a classroom.

The SRO opened the bag to determine its owner and located a loaded .22 caliber revolver handgun. The owner of the bag was identified as Dea’Montae Elgin, a 19-year-old from the 900 block of President Street in Annapolis.
Mr. Elgin was arrested and will be charged with handgun related charges. There are no indications that any other student observed the handgun or was threatened in any way.
