Mardi Gras this weekend in Annapolis

The hibernation season is over in downtown Annapolis. March kicks off a month of outdoor events around the City Dock. Annapolis Restaurant Week, Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day are all about coming out and having fun.

The newest event is Mardi Gras at Market Space. Sunday March 3 from noon to 5pm is designed to bring a festive spirit to downtown Annapolis. This event is being organized by the Downtown Annapolis Partnership in close collaboration with six downtown Annapolis restaurants.  The event takes place in the street  behind the Market House. It will feature food and beverages from Middleton Tavern, McGarvey’s Saloon and Oyster Bar, Iron Rooster Annapolis, Federal House Bar & Grille, Harvest Wood Grill + Tap and the Annapolis Market House. The organizers wanted to do something new and fun for locals to enjoy. The cooks and bartenders are coming out of the restaurants to create a small street festival.  The menu is truly Cajun with gumbo, grilled oysters, crawfish boil, shrimp and grits, red beans and rice and more.

Mardi Gras is not complete without some good beverages.  The popular Mardi Gras hurricanes, oranges crushes, Bud Light and craft beers are on tap.  Plus, sodas and bottled waters.

It will be an afternoon of festivities in the street with live music that will make you want to dance in the street.  The first hour opening act is Priddy Music Academy bands, Lopsided Chickens and Silver Soul. These young bands are quickly building a following and have been seen at many of the area’s local festivals.  Headline bands for this event start at 1pm with the Wild Anacostias and 3pm with the local favorite Naptown Brass Band. Both bands will pack the stage with high energy musicians that will have you dancing and singing in the street.  Expect an afternoon of fun Zydeco, Dixie Jazz and Cajun music.

Just in case you needed more help getting festive the event will have Swede-Art on site doing face painting, temporary tattoos and balloon artistry. Annapolis Pride will be on hand giving out beads to attendees.  Dress festive and plan to have fun.

Admission is free and you can park free all weekend at Calvert Street Garage at 19 St. Johns Street or park free on Sunday until 4pm at John Whitmore Garage 25 Clay Street.  A free Circulator shuttle goes to and from all downtown parking garages to this event.

Mardi Gras at Market Space is also part of the kick off for Annapolis Restaurant Week.  With 45 restaurants participating and many within walking distance plan to arrive early or stay late for Annapolis Restaurant Week 2019. Restaurant Week is a local’s favorite time to dine out.  Most of the best restaurants in the City offer special fixed price meals throughout the week of March 2 to March 10. You can select restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

As the month continues you will find yourself continuing to be in downtown Annapolis for festive events.  Sunday March 10th is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  The weekend of March 16 and 17 is a weekend of St Patrick’s Day events inside many of the downtown restaurants.
