Group of masked teens assault Annapolis man at gunpoint

On Saturday night about 1145pm, an Annapolis man was walking along the 1700 block of Forest Drive (near the Safeway) when  he was approached by a group of five or six teenaged male suspects. Several of them were wearing face masks.

One of the suspects displayed a handgun, pointed it at the victim and demanded property. The group punched and kicked the victim, causing him to fall to the ground. The man’s coat, belt, cell phone and wallet were stolen, he later recovered the wallet.

The group fled the area on foot.

The victim’s face was swollen and he had several bruises, a laceration to his face and complained of pain to his arm. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Officers searched the area and located a group of teenagers. One of the teenagers, Ronrico Coates, 17, of Annapolis, was identified as a suspect in the armed robbery. Coates was arrested and charged as an adult with armed robbery, robbery, first and second degree assault, handgun on person and theft. He is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond. A spokesperson for the Annapolis Police said that the other members of the group were not identified as being part of the assault.
