Annapolis Mayor Buckley fires Police Chief Scott Baker

City of Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley has announced that Annapolis Police Chief Scott Baker’s last day of active service will be March 20.

“I’ve been on the job for a little over a year now, and I want to see a change in the direction and culture of the Annapolis Police Department,” Buckley said.

Baker’s career with the Annapolis Police Department began when he was appointed as Major in 2008.  He was promoted by then-Mayor Mike Pantelides to Acting Police Chief, then Police Chief in June 2017.  Baker was paid $161,288 annually.

Prior to joining the Annapolis Police Department, Baker served as the Deputy Chief of the State Department of General Services Police. He is retired from the Baltimore Police Department.

City Manager Teresa Sutherland said that Major Paul Herman will be named Acting Police Chief while the City seeks a permanent appointment to the Police Chief position.
