AMFM seeking grant applicants for summer youth programs

Annapolis Musicians Fund for Musicians, Inc. (AMFM), a nonprofit organization that supports professional Annapolis musicians and music programs for youth, is now accepting applications for a $4,000 grant from its newly named David Glaser Educational Fund. The award will go to an organization in the greater Annapolis area whose summer program benefits underserved students.

The David Glaser Educational Fund is intended to offer underserved Annapolis youth exposure to the arts, particularly music. “David Glaser was a prodigiously talented musician who, over his 40-plus years as a performer, songwriter, and music teacher, cared deeply about mentoring and giving back to his community and was a devout supporter of AMFM. He gave generously of his time,” says AMFM President Matt McConville. “His sudden passing, from cancer, in June 2018, sent shockwaves through the Annapolis music scene. It seemed fitting to name our summer youth program grant after him.”

Applicants must be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, have an established, active summer program that includes a strong music component, and must serve underserved youth. Applications will be accepted through March 15, 2019, and the recipient will be chosen on or about April 15, 2019. To apply, go to www.am-fm.org and click on the link for the David Glaser Educational Fund.

AMFM was created to provide financial relief to professional Annapolis musicians who cannot work due to sickness, injury, or any other circumstance leaving them unable to perform. In addition, its Tim King Scholarship Fund awards a $5,000 scholarship each year to a high school senior intending to pursue a bachelor’s degree in music performance, and also provides funding for music instruction at Bates Middle School. The organization raises funds through donations and music events that showcase local professional talent. Its next fundraising show, “In the Vane of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young,” will be held on March 18 at Rams Head On Stage.
