Maryland crab cake challenge

Who makes the best crab cakes and crab soup in Maryland?

You decide at the 5th Annual Maryland’s Top Crab Cake Challenge, presented by the Maryland Business Connection (MBX), Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Michael’s Eighth Avenue (7220 Grayburn Dr., Glen Burnie, Md. 21061).

Approximately 400 to 500 people are anticipated for this culinary extravaganza, which also is a fundraiser for the National Kidney Foundation serving Maryland and Delaware.

Approximately 12 restaurants and caterers will compete for the prestigious title, including Acme Bar & Grill, Brews and Cues, EJ’s Provision Co., Food by Fire Catering, Michael’s Catering, Mick’s Gourmet Soups, Murraydine Catering and Schrader’s Outdoors.

In addition to sampling and voting on the crab dishes, guests can sample additional food items complimented by flavors from Raven Beer, Royal Rabbit Vineyards and other top beverage vendors.

The event also will feature casino games, a DJ, an interactive photo booth, 75 to 100 local business and retail exhibits, hourly prize drawings and a silent auction featuring sports and entertainment memorabilia and other items. It will follow with a networking reception in the outdoor patio garden, from 8 to 10 p.m., featuring live music and an announcement of the crab cake and crab soup winners.
