Akron clinches as Baysox falter

BaysoxThe Baysox saw Akron pull away in the middle innings as the RubberDucks punched the final remaining ticket to the 2018 Eastern League Postseason as the Baysox fell 7-3. For Akron it is the 17th time in their 30-year franchise history that they head to the Eastern League Playoffs.

For Bowie it was a night of could have beens. They had the bases loaded in the top of the second inning when an Anderson Feliz double play ended the frame. The Baysox left two men aboard in the fifth inning and loaded the bases down 5-1 in the seventh only to see a Ryan Mountcastle strikeout end the threat.

The Baysox trailed 1-0 early and came back to tie the game quickly. In the top of the third, Erick Salcedo drove a triple by the diving right fielder Ka’ai Tom to leadoff the inning. It was Salcedo’s second triple of the series and fourth of the year. Austin Hays followed with a sac-fly to tie the game at 1-1. Hays has 17 RBI’s in 17 games since returning from the disabled list.

But after the rally, Akron scored two runs, one of which earned in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth to open a 5-1 advantage.
