Baysox rally late and win in 10 innings

BaysoxThe Baysox had them right where they wanted them. Trailing in the ninth for a second consecutive night and a third time in their last six days the Baysox battled back to upend Altoona 7-5 in ten innings on Tuesday evening.

Down 4-3 in the ninth inning, the Baysox got hits from Anthony Santander and Ademar Rifaela to set the table. With one down, Martin Cervenka hit a sharp groundball down the left field to grab the lead as two runs scored to put Bowie atop 5-4.

This time Bowie had more work to do as Altoona manufactured a run to tie it in the bottom of the ninth inning. With a given runner at second base to open the tenth, Corban Joseph singled him home to lead off the frame. Later with two down, Joseph scored on an RBI-double from Santander. Tanner Chleborad came on and worked a 1-2-3 tenth inning to shut the door.

Bowie trailed 4-1 in the fourth inning as Altoona had the first six batters reach in a four-run rally to grab the lead from Bowie. In from the pen came Matthew Grimes with the bases loaded and one down. Grimes coaxed a double play ball to keep the Baysox in the game with his first pitch. He then threw three more scoreless innings. In the game, Grimes faced ten batters and got 11 outs.

The rally began with a Ryan Mountcastle home run on the first pitch of the seventh to get within 4-2. With two down in the eighth, Joseph provided a big RBI-single to bring the Baysox within 4-3.

Jaycob Brugman homered to start the scoring in the third to straightaway center. It was his third home run in six games with Bowie and fifth overall of the year. Jay Flaa worked a scoreless eighth. The Baysox have now won eight consecutive extra-inning games and are 8-1 overall in extra-inning games on the year.
