Gonzalez deals in Baysox 2-1 win

BaysoxBrian Gonzalez worked seven strong innings, striking out nine batters in a 2-1 Baysox win in Erie Saturday evening.

All night long Gonzalez dealt strike one.The Baysox left-hander had only worked five innings or more twice in seven prior starts due to elevated pitch count but he filled the zone with his entore repetoire of pitches this evening. After a bunt single opened the game against, GOnzalez retired 13 of the next 14 faced. He would also finish strong with five of his nine strikeouts in the final three innings of work. He retired the last five batters he faced.

Down 1-0, the Baysox used the triple to fight back. In the sixth inning with two men down, Anthony Snatander singled sharply to right. That set the table for Ryan Mountcastle. He ripped a game-tying RBI-triple over the head of CF Daz Cameron to knot the score at 1-apiece.

In the eighth, the Baysox did it again. With Anderson Feliz at third base, Santander blasted a drive to deep right-center. Cameron ranged back and dove back and to his left. He got his glove on the baseball, but the ball went bounding away. Cameron crashed to the ground and Santander was around to third with the would be game-winning RBI-triple.

Branden Kline entered and worked a 12-pitch 1-2-3 eighth inning. In the ninth after a leadoff single, Kline coaxed a double play ball from Cameron and then got Dominic Ficociello swinging over a hard slider to finish the game in Bowie’s favor.

The win ends a three-game losing streak and a stretch of six of seven defeat for Bowie. The Baysox are now 6-2 on the season against Erie. They will play 21 times in total.
