Baysox fall to Portland 5-1

BaysoxThe Bowie Baysox (26-29) fell to the Portland Sea Dogs (21-36) by a score of 5-1 on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field in Portland.

Bowie is just 10-17 on the road this season as opposed to 16-12 at home.

Portland grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second as a double and a walk put two men on before Luke Tendler knocked in both runners with a two-run double.

In the top of the fourth, Corban Joseph led off with his league-leading 19th double, advanced to third on a single and scored on Ademar Rifaela’s two-out RBI single to bring the Baysox within a run at 2-1.

The Sea Dogs quickly answered with a pair of runs in the home half of the frame to stretch the lead to 4-1. Josh Ockimey hit a solo shot off of Bowie starter Lucas Long and Deiner Lopez tripled in the frame before scoring on Tendler’s sac fly.

Tendler led off with a double in the seventh, took third on a passed ball and scored on Danny Mars’ sac fly to make it a 5-1 game in favor of the hosts.

Long (1-6) gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits to go along with two walks and two strikeouts in 6.1 IP.

Portland starter Kyle Hart (4-3) allowed one run on five hits while walking one in seven innings of work.

Ademar Rifaela (2-4, RBI) had a multi-hit game for manager Gary Kendall’s squad, while Anderson Felizextended his hitting streak to five games and RHP Jay Flaa (1.2 IP, BB, 3 K) had a scoreless outing in relief.

The series wraps up on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. as LHP Brian Gonzalez (0-2, 10.97) gets the start for the Baysox against Sea Dogs LHP Matthew Kent (3-3, 3.64).
